I was a skeptic, but now I drink mushrooms.
The Bestie Tests: Ryze Mushroom Coffee
Let’s talk about morning rituals, shall we? (No, not more TikTok rabbit holes, though we should probably address that eventually.) After years of hating mornings and feeling like I was dragged into the day, I finally have a routine that starts my day off right. And lately, Ryze Mushroom Coffee has been a huge part of that.
But first, a quick reminder on how The Bestie Test works:
Ma’am? Did you say mushroom coffee?
Yes, I did.
When I first heard about mushroom coffee a few years ago, I wrote it off. WHO WANTS TO DRINK MUSHROOMS?! Sure, I’m fine with mushrooms on pizza or in Thanksgiving casserole, but drinking mushrooms in coffee? Hard pass. I’m a known coffee hater.
But then, my friend Erin casually mentioned mushroom coffee on her Substack., and I thought, “Erin seems reasonable. Maybe it’s not that bad.” A few months later, my friend Ansley (← also very reasonable) offered me a cup of the mushroom coffee, so I said yes. I took a sip and… I liked it.
Cue dramatic gasp.
So, in the fall, I ordered Ryze Mushroom Coffee for myself. I also got the matcha and hot cocoa because, apparently, I’m that person who orders every flavor when trying something new.
Here’s the thing: I’m into it. Like, really into it.
But why mushroom coffee?
When I started taking photos of mushrooms in 2023 and mentioned to Cap that my dear internet friend Jessica Quirk was ALSO into mycology, he said, “That’s it. You two are always at the front of cultural trends. It’s going to be mushroom everything, everywhere.” And sure enough, he was right.
Adaptogenic mushrooms are showing up in coffee, wellness shots, and more.
5 Things to Know About Ryze Mushroom Coffee:
Before I start waxing poetic about how good this is, let me hit you with the basics:
It’s not your average coffee. Organic Arabica coffee and Cordyceps, Lion's Mane, Reishi, Shiitake, Turkey Tail, King Trumpet, AND MCT Oil, and Coconut Milk? This is like the wellness Avengers— brain support, energy boost, gut health. Allegedly. I’m not a doctor. I’m just a girl with a Substack asking you to read me.
It’s gentle on your tummy. Regular coffee can make my stomach revolt. Ryze? No problems here. It’s smooth and easy on the insides.
The energy is smooth. Regular coffee makes me jittery, but Ryze perks me up with a calm, “I’m about to crush this day” kind of energy. No shakes, no anxiety.
It’s versatile. Ryze offers matcha, chicory (caffeine-free), hot cocoa, and now chai. I’ve tried them all (except chai), and they’re all delicious.
It actually tastes great. It’s a little earthy, but with a little sweetener, it’s wonderful! I promise, it doesn’t taste like mushrooms at all!
The Yay:
I’ve been drinking Ryze daily for a month, and it’s officially part of my morning ritual. I mix it with oat or almond milk, add collagen (because I like pretending I’m a wellness guru), and it’s so smooth. No stomach complaints, no acid reflux, just a cozy, happy morning. And the real kicker? No 2:30 pm / afternoon crash. My energy stays steady all day.
The Nay:
This stuff isn’t cheap. One bag costs about $36 without discounts. But, quality ingredients come at a price. Thankfully, there are great introductory discounts, and you can use INDIANAADAMS15A to get 15% off. It’s pricier than your average coffee, but not more expensive than a daily Starbucks run. Not even close.
The Meh:
Get yourself a frother. Seriously. A frother makes all the difference. I’ve had mine since May 2024, and I’ve only charged it once. Worth it.
Best Tip:
If you’re serious about making your morning feel extra special, use pretty things. Whether it’s a sleek frother, a pretty coffee scoop, or a meaningful mug, invest in the mundane things you use daily.

TL;DR:
Ryze Mushroom Coffee is now my go-to morning drink. Smooth, gentle on the stomach, and gives me steady energy without the crash. It’s a little pricier, but I’m telling you, it’s worth it. I’m on my third bag.

What Should I Test Next?
I’m on the lookout for new things to Bestie Test! If there’s something you’ve been eyeing online & want my honest review, drop it in the comments!
I'm so glad you found something you love! I'd love to be a mushroom girly. Maybe one day. ADHD makes routines a challenge and I'd surely forget the mushrooms exist after 1 day 🤦🏼♀️ Does it get grainy at the bottom of your cup?
I'm so glad you reviewed this! My SIL can't have caffeine, but discovered mushroom 'coffee" and asked for some for Christmas. The brand options were so overwhelming! I can't remember which brand I got, but it's good to have a rec for one now! (and maybe I will splurge on myself to keep at work)
