The older I get, the more I need a great lipstick. These days, I’m rarely seen without a gloss, a tinted balm, or a trusty tube of lipstick. My natural lip color is fading (thanks, midlife), and there’s something about a quick slick of color that makes me look so much more alive. But gloss wipes off easily, lipstick can get crusty, and sometimes I’m stuck carrying around four different lip products just to get through the day. So when I saw Wonderskin’s Wonder Blading Lip Stain Masque, I was intrigued.

If you’ve spent any time on TikTok or Instagram, you’ve probably seen influencers glossing their lips with a blue metallic stain, then peeling it or wiping it off to reveal flawless pink lips. It’s kind of mesmerizing, right? I had to see if thus blue alien lipstick was worth all the hype.

I can’t remember who I saw trying Wonderskin lip stain first, but it may have been Lindsey at Created Colorful, so in an insomnia haze, I added them to my Amazon cart a few months ago to try out.

But why Wonderskin?

The algorithm is relentless. I just kept seeing content creators sporting that alien-blue coat, and I had to know if it was really as good as they said.

I tried two shades: Charming (a soft toffee rose) and Divine (a deep, rich burgundy red). Charming gave me that perfect “I’m-just-wearing-lip-balm” look, while Divine was bolder, which I actually love for an otherwise boring outfit kind of day.

Want a subtle tint or a bold finish? You can control the intensity. Just let the Lip Stain Masque set for 10-30 seconds, and the longer you wait, the more vibrant the color becomes. It’s buildable, so layer it up for a bold statement. You can even apply it twice to really amp it up.
Two Ways to Use

Stain & Go: A one-step, low-maintenance way to get long-wear lip color. Apply, let it set for 10-30 seconds, wipe it off, and you’re good to go.
Peel & Reveal: For ultra-long-lasting wear, use the optional WONDER BLADING Activator. It locks in color for up to 10 hours, and the result is transfer-proof, waterproof, and budge-proof. I did not test this, so your mileage may vary.

Comfortable Wear
Despite its staying power, this lip stain is comfy! It feels like you don’t have anything on at all. It won’t dry out your lips or feel tight, and it layers well with other lip products for a plush finish.
Easy Removal
To remove it, just use an oil-based makeup remover or cleansing balm. It’s easy to take off at the end of the day. No scrubbing needed!

The Yay:

This stuff works. Tonight, it stayed on through my honey citrus mint hot tea from Starbucks, a rainy soccer game, and a cheeseburger dinner without any fading or smudging. At the end of the day, it comes off easily with my usual Glow Recipe Papaya Sorbet Enzyme Cleansing Balm. Long-lasting, comfortable, and no touch-ups needed.

The Nay:

The swatches online can be a little misleading. On Amazon, it shows Charming as being bolder than Divine, but in reality, it’s the other way around. The colors are a bit more muted than they appear online, so keep that in mind when choosing your shade.

The Meh:

Most Reddit reviews agree that the spray activator isn’t worth it. The Stain & Go method seems to have the same staying power without the extra step.

Best Tip:

For best results, exfoliate your lips before applying. This will help smooth out any dry patches, giving you an even, flawless application. And, if you want extra shine, layer a gloss or balm on top without compromising the stain's staying power. It won't fade or run, even when layered with other lip products. In the video I used Glossier’s Balm Dotcom (clear) but I most often pair this with Summer Fridays tinted lip balm (in Poppy) to give the color a touch more warmth.

TL;DR:

Wonderskin Wonder Blading Lip Stain Masque is a long-lasting, smudge-proof, transfer-proof lip stain that’s perfect for anyone tired of constantly reapplying lip color. At $22 it’s a bit on the pricey side, but its staying power and customizable color make it a good investment. I loved both Charming and Divine, with Divine being my go-to for a bold, yet comfortable look.
